Ep 141 - Starve

This Week: Once the world's most famous chef, Gavin Cruikshank's been in a self-imposed exile for years. His little foodie television program has since evolved into STARVE, an arena sport that pits chef against chef for the pleasure of their super-rich patrons. It's a stain on a once-noble profession, and Chef Gavin is ready to go to war to stop it. Two things stand in his way: his arch rival Roman Algiers, and his adult daughter Angie, who probably just wants her dad back and acting normal.

Mass Marketing - Every time you see a billboard, take a drink.

Bacon Me Angry

Prep by making Bacon Infused Vodka

You Will Need:

  • 375 milliliters vodka

  • 1 Tablespoon bacon fat, cooled

  • Pint-sized mason jar with tight-sealing lid (a quart jar should hold a 750ml bottle of vodka)

  • Fine mesh strainer and either cheesecloth or coffee filter

  • Begin by frying a few pieces of bacon. Enjoy eating the cooked bacon and reserve the fat for the infusion.

  • Allow the bacon fat to cool for a few minutes.

  • Fill a clean mason jar with vodka and add the bacon fat using the measurement recommendations above.

  • Secure the lid on the jar and shake vigorously.

  • Allow the jar to rest at room temperature for about 4-6 hours.

  • Place the jar in the freezer for about 30 minutes until the bacon fat solidifies. Freezing will make the fat easier to remove in the next step. Don't worry, the vodka will not freeze.

  • Place cheesecloth or a coffee filter in a fine mesh strainer resting on top of a clean jar or bowl and slowly pour the infused vodka into the filter. All of the bacon fat should be caught in the filter and if some goes through, repeat this step until your vodka is clean.

Now for the actual drink

  • 1 ounce bacon-infused vodka*

  • 1 splash maple syrup

  • 1 dash bitters

  • 4 ounces Angry Orchard Crisp  Apple Hard Cider

  • Garnish:  brandied cherry

  • Garnish: bacon slice

  • Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

  • Stir well.

  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

  • Garnish with a brandied cherry and a small strip of bacon.
