(Aka New York Sour)
Formerly known as the Continental Sour or the Southern Whiskey Sour, this cocktail dates back to the late 1800s. Though originally thought to be crafted by a bartender in Chicago, the cocktail’s name was changed after its popularity took root in the Big Apple. This traditional sour recipe includes a red wine float, which adds texture, acidity, and an intriguing hue.
2 ounces Bourbon
1 ounce lemon juice
½ ounce simple syrup (1 part sugar, 1 part water)
1½ ounces dry red wine
In cocktail shaker filled with ice, add Bourbon, lemon juice and syrup. Shake well, and strain into glass over ice. Pour red wine over back of spoon to float on top of drink.
9 cups of water
1 pound plums, pitted and sliced
1 pound apricots, pitted and sliced
12 tablespoons sugar
Bring water to a boil, add fruit and boil for 15 minutes. Take off heat and cool for two hours. Add 2 Oz vodka to a glass with ice and top with 4-6 Oz of fruit juice
FOR THE COCKTAIL:
1.5-2 oz cake-flavored vodka (I used Pinnacle Cake)
1 oz creme de cacao
1/2 oz simple syrup
A few drops vanilla extract (to taste)
3 oz half and half
Donut holes, for garnish
Vanilla glaze, for rim (recipe follows)
Sprinkles, for rim
FOR THE GLAZE:
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
2-3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Make the glaze by mixing all of the ingredients in a shallow, wide bowl. If too thin, add a bit more confectioner’s sugar. If too thick, add a bit more milk. Once desired consistency is reached, Dip the rim of your glass into the glaze to coat. Flip rim-side up and set down, allowing the glaze to drip a bit. Wait 1 minute, and then dip into the sprinkles. Flip rim side up again and let dry.
Pour all of the liquid cocktail ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake well, and then strain the cocktail into the glass.
Poke a hole in a doughnut hole with a straw and pull the doughnut hole down a few inches from the tip of the straw. Remove the bit of stuck doughnut from the inside of the straw (using the prong of a fork, if necessary) and serve.
Is that Milk
2 oz Brandy
1 1/2 oz Cream
1 oz Simple syrup
1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
Shake with ice to frothy. Pour into cosmo glass, and grate nutmeg on top.
